Web 3.1 Unconference: It's time to start!
Let's discuss why we are doing it, what will happen, and what work needs to be done.
I’m more excited than ever about the potential for what we are doing, particularly given the very clear need we have seen over the past several weeks since starting this effort.
Web 3 is an opportunity to advance many of the same human centric technological principles we advocated with our Web 2.1 event in 2005 in San Francisco, and around the world with Social Media Club. A chance for us to leverage emerging technology to improve the fairness, inclusion, and equity of our socioeconomic systems.
It’s also still a pretty dangerous, early version of the wild west, with many potential challenges/risks not clearly understandable by the average person. This can all be mitigated with a combination of education, peer support, and respectful dialog. In short, the sort of thing that happens at an unconference. Hence, Web 3.1 Unconference.
But we need you to make it happen. We need people who share our values and seek to advance us all with conscious systems designs to meet the needs of everyday people, in order to deliver on the promise of decentralization and ownership heralded by Web 3 advocates. We need to get past what is happening now, what is emerging, and ensure that these core principles are not only embedded in the open technology design patterns, but also to ensure that good wins the day, and the impact of hucksters and other unscrupulous actors are minimized.
So starting this afternoon, we will begin a conversation about our objectives, the people we will serve, and the work it will require to deliver on our vision (which is still being clarified daily).
If you haven’t already done so, and you want to get involved in making this happen, join our Discord server and attend one of the upcoming conversations there where we will kickoff our collaboration.
