Let's do it again. Web 3.1 Unconference on 3.1.22
I'm working on hosting a Web 3.1 Unconference, virtually on March 1. I've been exploring and teaching myself about the emerging concept of Web 3 recently. If you are interested in working towards launching the blockchain based "web of value" across the proverbial chasm, join me today.
I'm looking for co-producers/organizers, speakers, strategic advisory board members, and sponsors so that we might get some people paid appropriately this time around. While we co-created unconferences and barcamps, we didn't co-fund them.
So we will mix a few more conference protocols with the open space and brainjam components, and a few more surprises. Join me today on Twitter Spaces at 3:10pm to discuss it with me.
In fact, to that point, I'm looking to choose a DAO platform upon which I can easily create a Web 3.1 DAO to financially support and govern our efforts together. I've reached out to several friends in the industry to get a recommendation, but none of them seem to have what I really am looking for yet... another reason for doing this.
Perhaps you who were at, or are aware of what we did with Web 2.1 (https://laughingsquid.com/web-21-a-brainjam-for-the-rest-of-us/) and how that lead to the launch and global growth of Social Media Club in 2006+
If you know, then you may also recall that I was trying to create a sense of co-ownership, a sort of co-op model in which we all owned a part of it and were accountable to perform in support of our greater purpose (https://chrisheuer.com/2005/10/09/web-21-wrap-up-the-future/comment-page-1/). That's why we became a non-profit association (501c6 here in the US). Some experiments succeeded well, some produced lessons learned :) Time to take it to the next level.
I don't intend to create a new org from this, instead, taking our big lessons from SMC and Brainjams before that, want to work with existing organizations such as Global Blockchain Business Council, Digital Chamber of Commerce, and Coin Center.
TBH, there is a lot of work to be done, and I wasn't planning on doing this quite yet, but my Substack sign up was discovered by friends, so why not just jump into the conversation together today.
Once again, struggling with the same internal fears that faced me when announcing Web 2.1 back in 2005. But in that same vein, fuck it, let's just do it and make it whatever it wants to be.
Once again, as with the social media gurus of old flocking to the next thing and selling outcomes they can't produce, we've seen these charlatans popping up and tainting the waters of the ecosystem and preventing growth. Once again we need to stand up for ethical behaviours, learning from each other, supporting key standards, and bringing the whole of the ecosystem together.
That's my hope. That's where I am today. I hope we are someone else entirely by March 1...
I can't do this alone. I could really use your help to do this right.
Will you help?
