Chris Heuer: Web 3.1 Keynote
Speaking about forming a new guild, a DAO, Chris shares what is "Beyond Web 3.1" and why it is crucial for us to come together now.
In his afternoon keynote, AdHocnium’s Creative Catalyst Chris Heuer shares his views on the promises and perils of Web 3, and why he wants to go beyond what is, to create what needs to be. In short, why he produced the Web 3.1 Leadership Summit and Unconference and what’s next. And what’s next is the formation of a new kind of community, a new kind of organization -- a guild of Web 3 professionals in service of heart centered leaders and purpose driven organizations.
He sees this as a very important moment in history, the critical moment when we get to redesign and rewrite large swaths of our economy. More importantly, he is concerned that the current direction of Web 3.0 / Web3 is headed in the wrong way. That the potential for creating a more inclusive economy is not only dissipating, it is beginning to be actively shunned by many of the people who would be pivotal to the movement’s long term success.
This is why he borrowed Bill Leider’s powerful technique, deploying the question “What will it take”? to get past our unconscious biases and limiting beliefs.
Heuer sees this era as one transitioning from the sharing economy to the co-ownership economy, from the creator economy to the co-creator economy.
As he originally said in 1997, “The ability of smart people to get along and work together is the number one factor in the creation of value today.” More true now than ever.
But what will it take to deliver on the promise of Web 3?
According to Heuer, It will take trust, a secure green infrastructure, a fair way to measure value, and a real respect for human capital. He sees the greatest need being a human one, a greater and persistent respect for each other as humans, regardless of our station in life, on a team, inside of an organization, or within a community.
Most importantly, he says, “What I believe it will really take is a guild; a group of people who have come together in support of a given profession. A community of peers, based on the shared values of designing and manifesting a better world through our work and our lives.”
Heuer notes that Independent professionals have been leaving organizations and going out on their own. The guild provides a framework through which we can have shared values, measure those values in action, and collaborate together. Previously, organizations or companies existed to take and retain profits from individuals and society. What would happen if we could flip the model to one where the organizations and companies were creating co-elevation, lifting individuals and society?
That spirit is at the heart of what Heuer says he is doing with Web 3.1. It's about recognizing that human capital is more valuable than venture capital. That people, with shared values and a common set of objectives, could create a new organization, get it built, launched, and find clients quickly without having to use venture capital because we now have the tools we need that were once only available to the wealthy.
Web 3.1 DAO?
By now you are perhaps saying? So are you forming a community? Doing more events? Or perhaps you are asking, “So are you going to build a DAO?”
The answer, according to Chris is… it depends. While he has a very clear idea of what imagines this new Web 3.0 Guild to become, he wants to find co-founders who will commit to building it as a true community organization, to not be “the one” building the guild, but one of the ones co-creating and co-owning the organization. In short, he’s seeking cofounders to work through what is really needed, what can we build, and how can we get to work building it.
This is why he invited everyone in the end of his keynote, which you can watch below, to join him at what he called Web 3.11, which is now called Beyond Web 3.1 and is happening on Wednesday April 6 at 8am PDT (GMT-7 Pacific). If you are interested, watch his keynote and join us.
